RESEARCH QUESTION:
How might personalized color selection inform zero waste and on demand production of soft goods?
The collaboration with CIRTex is focused around a user - centred application for interior design. The application automatically generates a range of color propositions for fabric patterns, in relation to an existing and specific spatial context. The work included the design of a small collection of physical samples which were dyed at Twine, and weaved in Shenkar.
Contemporary pattern weaving technology requires a large number of yarn transporters - each transporter for each colored yarn; which results in a large ecological impact. We only used one yarn transporter and digitally printed the colored patterns on the yarn itself to be revealed once woven. Each pattern was planned in advance and reverse-engineered to determine the required length of each color.
Pattern design, collaboration. My Role: technical assistance, sample analysis, labeling and photography. Pattern Design: Emma Erenst. Textile production: Dana Palmon at the Shenkar Weaving Lab.
